Is Amanita Muscaria a legal mushroom?
The legal status of Amanita Muscaria differs depending on the country. In most countries the Amanita Muscaria mushroom is either not regulated or not included in the list of prohibited substances and thus can be considered legal.
Amanita Muscaria is illegal in Australia, Thailand, Luisiana state (USA), according to Wikipedia article.
What most people doesn’t know, is that Amanita Muscaria has been added to the Natural Health Products Ingredient Database (NHPID) of Canada as a Natural Health Product.
Which active ingredients does Amanita Muscaria contain?
Amanita mushroom contains:
Muscimol – strongest GABA agonist.
Ibotenic acid – neurotoxic analogue of glutamate.
Muscarine (in insignificant amounts) – nonselective agonist of the muscarinic acetylcholine receptors.
Due to our technological production process our Calm Mushroom Amanita Muscaria Extract is 100% free of harmful neurotoxic ibotenic acid.
Why muscimol, unlike benzodiazepines doesn’t cause addition?
While benzodiazepines, such as alprazolam (Xanax), clonazepam (Klonopin), diazepam (Valium), and lorazepam (Ativan) are widely used to treat anxiety and insomnia, these substances can lead to dependence and even addiction within weeks of prolonegd usage.
According to scientific studies, muscimol1, on the other hand, is a non-addictive GABAAR agonist. I does not have addictive properties and its pharmacological effects are contrasted to the effects of the BDZs.

Does Calm Mushroom extract contain alcohol?
Our product is 100% alcohol free. We use Glycerol in our extract, not alcohol. Glycerol is a food additive (its EU code is E422) which is perfectly safe for consumption. Glycerol preserves flexibility and humidity, helps to blend the coloring matter in a uniform manner and is also used as a skin softening agent.
Does muscimol cause addiction?
Muscimol does not induce addiction, unlike benzodiazepines and barbiturates. This is explained by the difference in the function of influencing GABA in synaptic transmission. Muscimol is the strongest GABA agonist and essentially replaces GABA in its action on receptors. Benzodiazepines, like ethanol, are allosteric positive GABA receptor modulators. They cause receptors to open up and take in more GABA, which eventually leads to desensitized receptors and lower GABA levels. It is worth taking notice that the constant use of muscimol can lead to body building up tolerance for it, but that doesn’t lead to dependence or addiction.
1 – When administered directly into the VTA, low doses of muscimol cause an increase of DA levels in the NAc via an increase of DA neuron firing that presumably results from a selective inhibition of GABA inputs and the resultant disinhibition of DA neurons. However, at higher concentrations, muscimol inhibits DA neurons. Such an inverse dose-dependent response is in contrast with the observations following BDZ administration. One reason for this might be that muscimol is an agonist at the GABA site (rather than a positive modulator like BDZs), therefore it can inhibit DA neurons (via actions at GABAARs expressed on these cells) even when the afferent GABA interneurons are silent and no longer releasing GABA.
